Allez, rendez-vous à Paris – An AWS Region is coming to France!

All Things Distributed

Today, I am very excited to announce our plans to open a new AWS Region in France! Based in the Paris area, the region will provide even lower latency and will allow users who want to store their content in datacenters in France to easily do so. Over the past 10 years, we have seen tremendous growth at AWS.

High Scalability

It's HighScalability time: This is your 1500ms latency in real life situations - pic.twitter.com/guot8khIPX. heipei : It's Friday, I've been in a jumpsuit doing manual labor all day (crazy, I know) and weighing my options between passing out on the couch over some Youtube videos, reading the Friday @highscal blog post or writing code.

Building Netflix’s Distributed Tracing Infrastructure

The Netflix TechBlog

Investigating a video streaming failure consists of inspecting all aspects of a member account. If we had an ID for each streaming session then distributed tracing could easily reconstruct session failure by providing service topology, retry and error tags, and latency measurements for all service calls.

An average of 434 ms is awful, and a small queue size (aqu-sz) indicates it's a problem with the disk and not the workload applied. This may be the opposite of my famous [shouting video]: This time I'm suppressing vibration to make a disk work.) Note the sdb latencies range from 32 ms to over 2 seconds! Hit Ctrl-C to end.

So many bad takes?—?What is there to learn from the Prime Video microservices to monolith story

Adrian Cockcroft

Then they tried to scale it to cope with high traffic and discovered that some of the state transitions in their step functions were too frequent, and they had some overly chatty calls between AWS lambda functions and S3. This is only one of many microservices that make up the Prime Video application. Finally, what were they building?
