At the Linux Plumber's conference there were at least 24 talks on eBPF. eBPF should stand for something meaningful, like Virtual Kernel Instruction Set (VKIS), but due to its origins it is extended Berkeley Packet Filter. It can be used for many things: network performance, firewalls, security, tracing, and device drivers.

bpftrace uses BPF (Berkeley Packet Filter), an in-kernel execution engine that processes a virtual instruction set. BPF has been extended (aka eBPF) in recent years for providing a safe way to extend kernel functionality, and has become a hot topic in systems engineering, with at least 24 talks on BPF at the last Linux Plumber's conference.

Correspondingly, 3GB functions should see a 2x CPU performance improvement over 1.5GB Lambdas, but this is through doubling the number of cores the function has access to, rather than double the virtualized time-slices.
