My personal opinion is that I don't see a widespread need for more capacity given horizontal scaling and servers that can already exceed 1 Tbyte of DRAM; bandwidth is also helpful, but I'd be concerned about the increased latency for adding a hop to more memory. That's about 24 hours from now!

For SQL Server 2008, 2012 and 2014 the trace flag behavior remains the same. For SQL Server 2016 the trace flags are available but the behavior may be altered by the design changes. The SQL Server 2016 design change uses the CheckScanner instead of the MultiObjectScanner improving I/O behavior.
