CLI tools The Cassandra systems were EC2 virtual machine (Xen) instances. Note that Ubuntu also has a frame to show entry into vDSO (virtual dynamic shared object). Colleagues/Internet I love using [Linux performance tools]. This was much worse many years ago on Xen virtual machine guests.

Earlier this month I spent a week at the OpenStack conference. But once you realize that there are, in fact, several OpenStack conferences happening at the same time and place, it makes more sense. Bear in mind that the internet currently takes 4ms from New York to Philadelphia.

I’d been using the Internet since about 1984, for email and newsgroups, sharing files like my white papers via ftp sites, but in the early 1990’s the world wide web came along, and Sun was a very early adopter. I also applied Six Sigma to capacity planning and presented this at a conference in 2003.

One of the most significant announcements of the entire conference to me was that of per-function concurrency control. Correspondingly, 3GB functions should see a 2x CPU performance improvement over 1.5GB Lambdas, but this is through doubling the number of cores the function has access to, rather than double the virtualized time-slices.

The success of our early results with the Dynamo database encouraged us to write Amazon's Dynamo whitepaper and share it at the 2007 ACM Symposium on Operating Systems Principles (SOSP conference), so that others in the industry could benefit. As we say at AWS, It is still Day One for DynamoDB.
