The Netflix video processing pipeline went live with the launch of our streaming service in 2007. We rolled out encoding innovations such as per-title and per-shot optimizations, which provided significant quality-of-experience (QoE) improvement to Netflix members. The results are saved to a database so they can be reused.

From 2007 until 2016, Intel was able to successfully execute their Tick-Tock release strategy, where they would introduce a new processor microarchitecture roughly every two years (a Tock release). In 2007, we opened our first AWS Region in Ireland and since then have opened additional regions, in Germany and the UK, with France still to come. After migrating, database queries that took six seconds now take three seconds in their AWS infrastructure. However, we do not plan to slow down and we are not stopping there.
