WebGL 2 launched for other platforms on Chrome and Firefox in 2017. Provides support for "unread counts", e.g. for email and chat programs. For heavily latency-sensitive use-cases like WebXR, this is a critical component in delivering a good experience. Important in videoconferencing, commerce, and IoT setup scenarios.
