My personal opinion is that I don't see a widespread need for more capacity given horizontal scaling and servers that can already exceed 1 Tbyte of DRAM; bandwidth is also helpful, but I'd be concerned about the increased latency for adding a hop to more memory. This was starting to look like a Windows file cache bug. Maybe something to do with multi-socket coherency of the disk and cache or ??? The next step was a custom C++ program that opened the just-linked exe and called FlushFileBuffers on it. failure rate. 7-second sleep after linking exes: 2% failure rate.
