I ended up developing a fix for the JVM c2 compiler which Oracle reworked and added as the -XX:+PreserveFramePointer option in JDK8u60 (see my Java in Flames post for details [ PDF ]). I spent years as a cloud customer where I couldn't access many HW-level things.) I haven't used it. (I And this isn't even all of them.)
