We found the answers at the Postgres Conference in March where we surveyed PostgreSQL users, contributors, and SQL and NoSQL database administrators alike. Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform tied neck and neck at 17.5% Performance followed in fourth with 10.9% each amongst PostgreSQL public cloud users.

We discuss likely reasons for this decline in more detail in our analysis of O’Reilly Strata Conference speaker proposals. This decline is borne out in our usage numbers: Hadoop (-34%), Hive (also -34%), and even Spark (-21%) were all down, significantly, year-over-year. Cloud continuing to climb.

We hear a lot from Google and Microsoft about their cloud platforms, but not quite so much from the other key industry players. The authors claim a two orders-of-magnitude performance improvement.
