I was mostly coding in C, tuning FORTRAN, and when I needed to do a lot of data analysis of benchmark results used the S-PLUS statistics language, that is the predecessor to R. We had specializations in hardware, operating systems, databases, graphics, etc. Rich Pettit is one of the best programmers I ever met.

Note that the main developer of HammerDB is Intel employee (#IAMINTEL) however HammerDB is a personal open source project and HammerDB has no optimization whatsoever for a database running on any particular architecture. In the recent MySQL 8.0.16 So to test I took a system with Skylake CPUs and all storage on a P4800X SSD.

Similarly for this guide MySQL can be swapped for a mySQL based databases such as MariaDB. As is also the case this limitation is at the database level (especially the storage engine) rather than the hardware level. As is exactly the same with PostgreSQL for system choice a 2 socket system is optimal for MySQL OLTP performance.
