The Polyglot Developer is Live on Twitch

TwitterFacebookRedditLinkedInHacker News

I am pleased to announce that The Polyglot Developer is now a part of Twitch when it comes to streaming developer content live!

So what can you expect when it comes to the Twitch channel?

Think webinar, but without all the marketing nonsense that typically comes with them. Twitch streams are live, not at all formal, and an opportunity for the community to engage with the presenter as things happen on the stream. In other words, instead of leaving a comment on a blog post or YouTube video, you can ask questions and provide feedback as things happen, not only to the presenter, but to other members within The Polyglot Developer community.

So how do you get involved and what does this mean for the other education channels?

The Polyglot Developer has quite a few channels. To put things into perspective, they can be outlined as the following:

  • The blog that you’re currently viewing
  • The YouTube channel
  • The podcast
  • The courses platform

None of these channels are disappearing because Twitch is different. For example, the blog has written content, and the podcast has audio only content that’s been previously recorded. If anything, Twitch would be more similar to the YouTube channel or the courses platform because all three are videos. However, the courses are designed to offer a more fluid and complete education experience, and the YouTube channel was designed to offer formal, one-off videos on a particular subject. Neither offer the collaboration and informal development that Twitch and live streaming offers.

So what can you do to be a part of this?

If you’re a member on Twitch, please take a moment to “Follow” the channel. Following the channel doesn’t cost you anything and you’ll get notifications every time The Polyglot Developer goes live. If you’re not a Twitch member, take a moment to sign up, so then you can be a member of the channel.

Here are some examples of the great content that you’ll be streaming:

The above are on-demand recordings of previous Twitch streams.

As of right now there is no official streaming schedule. I’m playing around with the dates and times to see what attracts the most viewers. After some experimentation, I’ll likely choose a consistent streaming schedule so that it is predictable when the channel is live.

Please be a part of the channel and engage in the chat. I’m really hoping this becomes beneficial for everyone.
