Benchmark (YCSB) numbers for Redis, MongoDB, Couchbase2, Yugabyte and BangDB

High Scalability

We note that for MongoDB update latency is really very low (low is better) compared to other dbs, however the read latency is on the higher side. The latency table shows that 99th percentile latency for Yugabyte is quite high compared to others (lower is better). Workload C: Read only. This workload is 100% read.

The Three Cs: Concatenate, Compress, Cache

CSS Wizardry

Caching them at the other end: How long should we cache files on a user’s device? Concatenate Concatenation is probably the trickiest bit to get right because, even though the three C s happen in order, decisions we make later will influence decisions we make back here. Cache This is the easy one. That’s almost 22× more!

Percentiles don’t work: Analyzing the distribution of response times for web services

Adrian Cockcroft

The mean and percentile measurements hide this structure, but the rest of this post will show how the structure can be measured and analyzed so that you can figure out a useful model of your system, understand what is driving the long tail of latencies and come up with better SLAs and measures of capacity.

MongoDB Database Backup: Best Practices & Expert Tips

Percona

Cons of logical backups As it reads all data, it can be slow and will require disk reads too for databases that are larger than the RAM available for the WT cache—the WT cache pressure increases, which slows down the performance. Hence, the node would still be available for other operations.

How To Measure the Working Set Size on Linux

Brendan Gregg

Short durations can be useful for understanding how well a WSS will fit into the CPU caches (L1/L2/L3, TLB L1/L2, etc). In this case, 28 Mbytes is a little larger than the LLC for this CPU, so may not cache so well (in a single LLC, anyway, and based on this single measurement). wss.pl -C `pgrep -n mysqld` 1. 102.36.
