Beyond APM: Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for APM and Observability – A Partner Perspective

Gartner has named Dynatrace a Leader in the 2022 Magic Quadrant for Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and Observability, positioning us furthest for Completeness of Vision. What’s more, Gartner scored Dynatrace highest in four of six use cases in the 2022 Gartner Critical Capabilities for APM and Observability. But what does this mean for our partner community?

Gartner recently published its annual Magic Quadrant for APM which has now been extended to include Observability. Evaluating 19 vendors, Gartner named Dynatrace a Leader once again, positioning us furthest for Completeness of Vision. Additionally, Gartner also scored Dynatrace highest in four of six use cases in the Critical Capabilities for APM and Observability Report. And we couldn’t be more thrilled.

Following the announcement, I had a chance to sit down with Michael Allen our VP of Worldwide Partners at Dynatrace to pick his brains on what this means for Dynatrace Partners and their customers.

Q: So, Michael, the biggest thing to note this year is how the two reports have extended to cover Observability – what does this mean for our Partners?

A: This is a real shift for our Partners, and of course Dynatrace, because I believe it shows Gartner has recognized the importance of Observability across the market and that it’s a trend that’s going to shape the future of the industry. For our Partners, I believe having Dynatrace recognized as a Leader and positioned Furthest for Completeness of Vision really validates our vision of going beyond APM and how Observability is a journey every partner and their customer should be embarking on. End-to-end observability is an essential element of modern hybrid and multicloud strategies, and we believe by partnering with Dynatrace, our partners can deliver precise answers and intelligent automation from the expanding volume of observability data emanating from modern clouds.

Q: What can Partners take away from our positioning in the Quadrant this year?

A: I believe this recognition is a validation of our ability to anticipate the market, continually innovate, and redefine our platform to anticipate and lead the changing market. For Partners, this should provide confidence in having Dynatrace as a Partner and a vendor that can provide a solution that is always ahead of the curve. And, partnering with us means they can bring that expertise to their business and their customers’ business. And that has never been truer for our partners than our service offerings – an area where we’re continually innovating and evolving to provide our partners and their customers with the best services and solutions for their businesses to succeed. And when I say services offerings, I’m not just talking about “installing and managing” Dynatrace; I mean providing partners with the opportunity to build and grow large-scale, multi-year transformation projects driven by the outputs of Dynatrace. This positioning, I believe validates our ability to do this effectively.

Q: And what about our scoring in the Critical Capabilities report? What does this mean for our Partners and their customers?

A: The Critical Capabilities report is, I believe, a very powerful report for our partners and their customers as it provides real tangible results with impact. It really gets down to the specific capabilities of the vendor platforms and reinforces Dynatrace’s ability to deliver specific use cases that our Partners’ customers may be looking for, such as DevOps and DEM. We believe to be ranked #1 out of 19 vendors across IT Operations, DEM, DevOps, and SRE/Platform Operations Use Cases is a huge testament to our ability to deliver these use cases and can further support and differentiate our partners when going to market.

Q: Based on our positioning in both the Magic Quadrant and Critical Capabilities reports, what do you think it is that sets us apart from other vendors?

A: I think the key thing to note is that we went beyond APM and embarked on the observability journey early – a few years ago now and anticipating these changes that happen before they come to fruition is something I believe Dynatrace does like no other vendor. Take Davis, our AI engine, for example – we embedded this into our Software Intelligence Platform before many were even using an AI engine to determine root-cause and auto-remediate. The same is happening with observability – the Dynatrace platform’s extensive observability capabilities span across apps, infrastructure, user experience, AppSec, and the latest open-source standards including OpenTelemetry – and we’ve been doing that for a while. That is what I believe sets Dynatrace apart – anticipating trends before they become mainstream and for our partners and customers, that’s integral to helping them stay ahead of their competition.

A prosperous partner future

The partner opportunities and business has grown exponentially over the last year, and we couldn’t make that happen without you. You bring us the best-in-class skills to integrate and deliver highly differentiated offerings powered by Dynatrace, which has in turn seen our growth increase. So, thank you to all our partners. We believe that is reflective in our recognition from Gartner, revalidating our position in the market and the direction we’re headed.
