Valkey 7.2.5 has been officially released as the first General Availability (GA) version, a significant milestone for the project. It is now available in multiple formats: as an official Docker container, through Fedora/EPEL yum repositories, and as binary tarballs for both Ubuntu Bionic and Ubuntu Focal. This availability ensures straightforward installation on rpm-based systems, though initially, deb-based systems were not supported.

With Percona’s recent involvement, the community has expanded the compatibility of Valkey. Percona’s participation has strengthened the development, emphasizing inclusivity in software distribution. In response to community contributions, new packages have been introduced based on the latest Valkey release to support all major Linux distributions, including deb-based systems (OL8, OL9 Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 11, Debian 12). Additionally, packages for the arm64 architecture have been added, broadening support across various hardware platforms.

The support for arm64 architecture is particularly advantageous as it meets the needs of modern, energy-efficient arm-based servers and devices. These are increasingly favored for their cost-effectiveness and lower power consumption. Supporting arm64 allows Valkey to be utilized in diverse environments, ranging from cloud infrastructures to edge devices, thus enhancing its versatility and appeal.

Using distribution-specific packages offers numerous benefits over tarballs. Packages streamline the installation and upgrade processes, ensuring proper configuration and integration with system management utilities. They also more efficiently manage dependencies, minimizing the risk of conflicts and ensuring timely updates, a common issue with manual tarball installations. Moreover, package managers facilitate automatic updates, enhancing security by promptly applying patches and new versions.

To ensure all users can benefit from Valkey 7.2.5’s robust features, below are detailed instructions for installing these packages on both rpm and deb-based systems, as well as those utilizing arm64 architecture. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility and user satisfaction, reinforcing Valkey’s reputation as a versatile and reliable software solution.
