Percona Everest is a cloud-native database platform to deploy and manage enterprise-grade PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and MySQL database clusters.

Percona Everest 0.7.0 (Alpha) was released on January 31, 2024. The new version contains significant changes on the backend. However, I will show what is visible to the user. Let’s explore what has improved.

Percona Everest Alpha - Start

1. Installation with everestctl became easier

Now, the installation requires only a single everestctl install command.

You must select the namespace name and the databases you will use: MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Percona Everest 0.7 - Install

Percona Everest is designed for installation into your Kubernetes cluster. You can install it on the Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) or Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) and locally on Minikube and k3d. If you need a cluster, find preparation instructions in our documentation.

everestctl will install the necessary components and Percona Operators for the selected databases into your Kubernetes cluster.

2. Improved security

Percona Everest functionality requires authorization now. You will receive a token to log in to during installation.

3. Setting up scheduled backups

In the third step of creating or editing a database cluster, we are prompted to enable backups.

Percona Everest does backups to S3-compatible storage. You can immediately add storage for backups when you create the cluster, or you can add storage in the Percona Everest settings.

4. Point-in-time recovery

The fourth cool feature is point-in-time recovery. You can enable it immediately when creating a cluster or at any time afterward.

PITR provides continuous backups of your database, enabling you to restore it to a specific point in time in case of accidental writes or deletes.

5. Monitoring endpoints

We can enable monitoring in the last step of creating and editing a database cluster.

There is a new section in the Percona Everest settings – Monitoring Endpoints. Here, you can add your Percona Monitoring and Management monitoring servers.

For example, I have installed PMM in AWS c using Docker and will add it to Monitoring Endpoints.

6. Light and dark themes

One final nice feature is for your eyes.

We have introduced a dark theme mod for your comfort.
