Why are iOS apps "direct metal" binaries while Android apps use Java runtimes? Apple's defenders offer contradictory arguments: Browsers are essential to modern operating systems, and so iOS includes a good browser. Whatever the reason, in 2020, it isn't security. Is one of these more (or less) "an app"?
